DETAILS: Michelle Matthews presents “Resilient,” an immersive sculpture engulfing Mother Dog’s “The Pit” gallery with a wave of raw clay flowing through the gallery, pulsing with stilled energy, redefining the interior landscape from its formal geometric presences into an organic resilience.

Following the opening day, the exhibit will be on display until July 14.

Archway Gallery presents “Empty Bowls” silent auction reception

DETAILS: Archway Gallery will host the annual “Empty Bowls” fundraising endeavor. This grassroots effort is organized by local artists and craftspeople in cities and towns across the country to feed the hungry in their communities.

Empty Bowls Houston, benefiting the Houston Food Bank, is presented by local sponsors and implemented locally by Houston-area artists working in various media. For a minimum $25 donation, attendees of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft event have the pleasure of selecting a bowl from hundreds of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted bowls donated by Houston area craft artists. Participants then receive a simple lunch of soup and bread. At Archway Gallery, over 30 finely crafted, one-of-a-kind bowls made of ceramic, wood, glass, and fiber will be displayed in addition to the work submitted by both 2D and 3D Archway Gallery artists. The Empty Bowls artwork may be purchased through the month-long Silent Auction. Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display until May 25.

DETAILS: Hosted by Gallery Furniture and Peace of Mind Foundation, Ride for Mental Health is a motorcycle ride coordinated to raise awareness and funds for mental health. All proceeds garnered will go toward helping those affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – helping to make a difference, not just for one individual, but for families, therapists and all affected by this illness. As many as 1 in 5 adults will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime impacting both men and women. Mattress Mack and his daughter, Elizabeth McIngvale, are teaming up to end the stigma surrounding mental health, including OCD. The event will feature live music, food and various vendors. Prices include both lunch and a shirt. In addition, The Peace of Mind Foundation has partnered with Orange County Choppers who created two custom bikes which will be on display at the ride.
